Michelle Troconis trial: Woman convicted of helping boyfriend cover up wife's murder in Connecticut

Michelle Troconis, who was on trial for the disappearance of Jennifer Dulos, her boyfriend's ex-wife, was convicted on all counts.
Troconis was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, conspiracy to tamper with physical evidence, and hindering prosecution. “We have lost a mother, a daughter, a sister, a cousin and a beloved friend".
Luft stated that "the verdict represents the meticulous collection, analysis, and presentation of evidence that sheds light on a series of unconscionable crimes. "
"This tremendous amount of evidence also helps highlight the remaining gaps in this case - most importantly, Jennifer Farber Dulos remains unsolved," Luft said. “We hope that renewed public interest in this case may generate viable new leads.”

Jennifer Dulos, a Connecticut mother of five, disappeared on May 24, 2019, during a custody dispute with her ex-husband, Fotis Dulos. Her body was never found but a judge declared her legally dead.
Fotis Dulos committed suicide in January 2020, weeks after being charged with the murder of Jennifer Dulos. Prosecutors allege Fotis Dulos killed his estranged wife in her garage on May 24, 2019.
During Troconis' trial, the jury was shown an interrogation video in which Troconis admitted lied about seeing Fotis Dulos at their home the morning of Jennifer Dulos' disappearance, New Haven. ABC affiliate WTNH reported. “I don't know where Jennifer is and that's 100 percent,” Troconis said in the interrogation video, according to WTNH. "I just know I came to his aid as a stupid girlfriend, because he told me, 'Move the house,' and I did." “[Fotis Dulos] told me that Jennifer was a monster,” Troconis said in the interrogation video, according to WTNH. “He hates her.
Police say surveillance footage shows Fotis Dulos driving, with Troconis in the passenger seat, in Hartford later that day, the day Jennifer Dulos disappeared and Fotis Dulos stopped to dispose of alleged evidence is in the trash, the Hartford Courant reported. In court, jurors were shown ties, gloves and stained clothing that prosecutors said had been taken out of the trash.
Defense attorney Jon Schoenhorn said Troconis never denied being in the car with her boyfriend but said she denied any involvement or knowledge of any crimes Fotis Dulos may have committed.
In her closing argument, prosecutor Michelle Manning reminded the jury about the garage where investigators say Fotis Dulos killed his wife and tossed the bloody items in the trash.
"There was blood all over the garage, all over the undercarriage of the two cars, footprints and blood stains," said Manning. “Her bloody shirt and bra were thrown away... with lanyard, sponge and tape. Make no mistake: this was intentional and willful murder."
"Jennifer is dead. And Fotis and Michelle Troconis intended for this to happen. They agreed to work together to make this happen," Manning said. "This lawsuit is simple: It is a conspiracy and a cover-up. The film follows the actions of Michelle Troconis and how she and Fotis Dulos plotted together to kill the woman who stood in their way. It is about Fotis Dulos' disappointment at not being able to see his children... and every time these children come, Michelle Troconis has to leave the house...and we knew she was fed up."
"Frustration turned to anger and hatred," Manning told jurors. "Hear her own words in interviews [scenes close] -- how she describes Jennifer -- someone she has never met . She described her as manipulative, angry, toxic. »
Schoenhorn, the defense attorney, emphasized in his closing argument: "Regardless of Fotis Dulos's role in the disappearance – and I will talk about the possible death of Jennifer Dulos –

“There is no evidence that Michelle Fotis even thought she was capable of something like this,” Schoenhorn said.
“This is not the trial of Fotis Dulos,” he continued. “Because this is the trial of Michelle Troconis, [to convict her] you must find beyond a reasonable doubt that Michelle conspired with Fotis Duos not only to harm Jennifer Dulos, but to murder her.
To convict her, he told the jury: "You have to find a variety of factors to establish reasonable suspicion that Michelle was part of a conspiracy to destroy evidence - some microscopic, some in The garbage bag was opaque - but she knew what "was in there, knew her " And what she did was intended to be exactly the same as whatever Fotis Dulos had planned."
After the verdict, Paul Ferencek, State's Attorney for the Stamford/Norwalk Judicial District, said in a statement: "While we hope today's verdict brings some peace to Jennifer's family and friends, we also hope that one day we can find a solution for problem. Questions remain unanswered about where Jennifer lies. I assure you that the State of Connecticut and this office will never stop searching.
Schoenhorn said Troconis was "devastated" by the verdict.“We are certain that she is innocent,” Troconis' sister Josie added.
Bail was set at $6 million cash bail. The judge imposed additional conditions requested by the state: house arrest, electronic monitoring and surrender of his passport.
Troconis' sentencing is set for May 31.
Jennifer Dulos' mother currently has custody of Dulos' five children, ages 8 to 13 as of May 2019, according to the Associated Press.Kent Mawhinney, Fotis Dulos' friend and former attorney, was also charged with helping cover up the crime. He has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and is awaiting trial.
